FOSS Backstage is back! The 9th edition of our conference on the non-coding aspects of Free and Open Source Software will take place in Berlin and online, on 2nd & 3rd March 2027.
Two days fully focused on what makes Open Source work behind the scenes: people, practices and structures. This includes governance, economics and policy as well as security, operations, adoption and design.

Call for Participation is now open
Our Call for Participation (CfP) starts today. We are looking for sessions that share practical experience, challenge established thinking, or open up important discussions about Free and Open Source Software. We strive to curate a program that is truely “by the community, for the community”. Therefore, we are looking for your input:
Submit your proposal by 8th of November 2026, 23:59 CET.
Submissions covering current developments are very welcome. For 2027, this may include AI and its impact on development, security and communities, practical consequences of regulation such as the Cyber Resilience Act, digital sovereignty, or the role of Open Source in critical digital infrastructure. These are examples, not preferred topics. For the full list of topics we want to see covered at FOSS Backstage, have a look at our track descriptions.

Expect lots of time to connect with community leaders, maintainers, designers, legal experts, researchers and public sector practitioners.
